5 color palettes for your 7.1 Squarespace website
If you’re here, you’ve likely opened up your Squarespace account, picked a template, and you’re just figuring out how you can choose your brand new website colors... but paralysis sets in after trying to adjust the custom colors and it just looks… awful. Don’t stress! I’ve prepared 5 modern and fresh color palettes that you can match to the templates to look perfect right away.
How does the new Squarespace 7.1 custom color palette work?
A neat new feature in 7.1 is the ability to choose a color kit of custom colors that will apply to the site and update automatically. It’s a terrific way to really make the site your own and stand apart from the rest.
To edit your color palette, head to the Design section of your Squarespace dashboard, and then Colors.
Click Edit beside the Palette option, and you’ll see a selection of Designer Palettes available to you. Try clicking around through these and you’ll see how it applies to your site. It will also help demonstrate how different colors can give your website an ENTIRELY different feel - experiment and see what makes you feel most excited about your site!
Two different designer palettes give the site a very different feel!
If you click on the dropdown that says “Designer Palettes”, you’ll get even more options - to choose colors From Image (try uploading your existing logo, or even photos from a consistent photo shoot to make your site coordinate), From Color (See auto-generated options based on color theory from one color that you choose), or Custom Colors.
To apply a custom color palette like the ones below, enter the Custom Colors dialogue, and you’ll be able to custom select each color in the palette.
Simply replace the color code (#000000) at the bottom for the assigned one in the palette, and your new color will appear.
What I’ve laid out for you below is awesome because the colors you can select are not random, they are labeled as White, Black, Accent, Light, and Dark. If you hover over each circle with your mouse cursor, the label will appear. If you apply your custom colors correctly, you can control how each section theme will appear when applied, and it will be available.
I’ve included one Bonus Accent in each combo below you can add when editing the Section Themes too! Sometimes you just need an extra little pop, so try changing some of the links or buttons in the Section Themes as well. I recommend setting up a private page on your site, and adding one section of each of the different themes to test how they will appear and change details as necessary.
Same website… three very different looks for the section!
Try different sections throughout the site, and even change the colors of your footer section the same way!
The combinations below also include a Replace black as... option. Changing the black to a tonal, off-black color instantly uplevels your design and makes it classier. Try it - you’ll see what I mean!
